Find Your Perfect Belt Size

Belts are one of the most common accessories in any wardrobe, yet finding the right size can still be confusing. A quick Internet search may leave you only more confused as different brands measure belts in different ways. At Robert Charles, we believe a belt should not only complete your look but also fit perfectly from the very first wear. Here’s our guide to understanding belt sizing so you can shop with confidence.

How Belt Sizes Are Measured

The correct way to measure a belt is from the inner edge of the buckle (where the buckle meets the pin) to the middle hole. This ensures that the belt fastens naturally at the center, leaving just enough length to thread neatly through your belt loops — about 15–17cm beyond the buckle. This balance is what gives a belt both function and elegance.

Belts usually come with five holes. Measuring to the middle hole gives you flexibility: you can wear the belt slightly tighter or looser, depending on changes in outfit, fabric thickness, or fit preference. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference to how your belt feels day to day.

Simple Ways to Find Your Belt Size

There are a few reliable methods you can use at home:

1. Measure with a Tape
Thread a flexible tape measure through your trouser loops and mark where it meets around your waist or hips (depending on how you wear your belt). Choose the size closest to that measurement.

2. Use an Old Belt
Lay a belt flat and measure from the buckle to the hole you use most often. This gives a practical reference point.

3. Check Your Jeans Size
A quick shortcut is to add three inches to your jeans size. For example, a size 32 jean usually pairs well with a size 35 belt. This isn’t perfect, but it works as a fast estimate.

One exception: Braided and Elasticated Belts

Braided and elasticated belts don’t rely on set holes, which makes them wonderfully versatile. You can secure the buckle wherever it fits best. This flexibility makes them ideal for casual dressing or when you want a belt that adapts to different trousers.

Robert Charles Belt Sizing

Each Robert Charles belt comes with a detailed sizing chart under the SIZE GUIDE tab of each belt, tailored to the belt type — whether it’s a classic leather style, a jeans belt, or a braided design. Our leather belts are fully adjustable, designed so you can shorten them for a precise, personal fit.

The only exception is our elasticated belts, where the leather trim is sewn into the woven material. These are not adjustable in the same way, but their natural stretch ensures a comfortable, flexible fit from day one.

If you’re ever unsure, we’re here to help you find the size that feels as good as it looks.
